Reading Challenge and Bog Eyed Jog

We are introducing a new reading challenge for the children at Duke Street.  The challenge is for the children to read 100 books during their time at school.  All the books on the list have been chosen as they are good quality reading texts and many of them are children’s classics.  There is no specific order in which to read the books but you will see a natural progression from books that are more suitable for younger children to books that are more suited to confident older readers.  Younger children should read with you, and enjoyment should come from a shared reading experience, whilst older children should be reading independently.  However, lots of discussion surrounding texts for all ages will help children with a better understanding.

Once your child has read a book, please sign and date the end column next to the book.  Books read can also be signed by class teachers, if the books have been read in school, and class novels also qualify for the reading challenge.

Aa part of our push on getting the children to read more, we have updated lots of things in our school library.  To fund this we are planning a Bog Eyed Jog on Friday 27th October. This will be a sponsored event and a sponsor form will be sent home shortly.
