English

We are starting Autumn term looking at ‘Woodland Explorers!’. We will be reading and looking at texts such as; The Gruffalo, Stick Man and The Gruffalo’s child, in depth to help build our reading, comprehension and writing skills. This will build up to rewriting the stories and creating our own habitats. Included in this we will also be looking at explanation texts and poetry. We also do Guided Reading sessions, which focuses on comprehension and word recognition.

Reading

We would like your children to read for 10 minutes every night. Please sign their ‘Reading Record Book’ every time you read. Their book bags need to be brought back into school the next day so that they can be stamped in the ‘Reading Record Book’ and ‘Stamp Card’ can be stamped.  Once your child has filled a page in their stamp cards, they will get a prize.

We listen to the children read each week during guided reading. The children will also have a designated day of the week when they will be heard to read individually and have their reading books changed. Please make sure their reading packets are in school each week on their designated reading day.

Topic

Our topic focus this term is looking at ‘Woodland Explorers’. We will be taking a look at famous explorers in history as well as characters in well known books. We look forward to exploring all aspects of this unit by also looking into minibeasts.

P.E

Our P.E day is on Thursday. This term we will focus on the fundamental movement skills of running, hopping, skipping, jumping and throwing. Please make sure that your child has their full indoor/outdoor P.E kit in school labelled correctly. Also, please make sure that your child has taken out their earrings or tape is applied prior to school.

Junk Modelling

We appreciate any items such as cereal boxes, kitchen roll tubes, clean yoghurt pots, bottle tops etc.… for our creative making area.

Warm Clothing.

Every day, rain or shine, we have a free flow policy when it comes to outside. Please make sure your child has a warm winter coat, gloves, and scarf. We do have waterproof pants for the children to get changed into. However, if you would like your child to have a pair of wellies in school, please bring them in a labelled bag.

If you have any worries or concerns then don’t hesitate to speak to us, we are always available to answer any questions you may have. Alternatively, you can make an appointment to see us with Mrs. Nicholls at the front office.
