English

We are starting Spring term looking at ‘Wild’ by Emily Hughes, as a whole class text. We will be reading and looking at the text in depth to help build our reading, comprehension and writing skills. This will build up to rewriting the story and creating our own habitats. Included in this we will also be looking at explanation texts and poetry. We also will continue our Guided Reading sessions, which focuses on comprehension and word recognition.

Reading

We would like your children to read at least three times a week at home, more if possible. We have a reward system in place where your child will be able to get a raffle ticket, every time they bring in their book and have read. Raffle tickets will be drawn daily and children will receive a reward. If you could ask your children questions about the story they have read, it will help with their reading comprehension.

Maths

The children will continue to develop their understanding of the number system, but will also look at multiplication, division, fractions and data handling, as well as focusing on measurement, and continuing our practice with counting to a from 100, forwards and backwards, from any number.

Topic

Our topic focus this term is looking at Antarctica as one of the 7 continents. We will be taking a geographical look at the 7 continents and 5 oceans. We will be looking at the geographical similarities and differences through studying the human and physical geography of Antarctica and Chorley.

Homework

Homework will be sent out every Friday and due in the following Thursday of the following week. This consists of Maths and Topic based homework (some of which requires you to show your creative side, the children love it!).

Spellings rules and phonics are taught throughout the week during Star Spelling. There will be a spelling test every Friday. Spellings will be sent home every Monday, to be learnt for the test that week.

P.E

Our P.E days are on Tuesday and Thursday. This term we will focus on gymnastics. We will be looking to work on our balance, whilst experimenting with making core and new shapes with our bodies. Please make sure that your child has their full indoor/outdoor P.E kit in school labelled correctly. Also, please make sure that your child has taken out their earrings or tape is applied prior to school.
