Topic

LKS2 Spring term overview 2018

Year 3 4 autumn overview complete

Our topic for Spring term 2018 is ‘Water, water everywhere’. We will be exploring rivers and rainforests within this unit. Focussing on key vocabulary to name and explain the main parts of a river as well as developing our understanding of the water cycle. We will also receive an in-school workshop from United Utilities focussing on water, where it comes from and where it goes. As part of our topic, we will also be undertaking a local river study in Duxbury woods this term.  Another aspect which we will be exploring is rainforests. We will discover what they are, what animals and vegetation are found there and why it is important to our planet as well as the dangers rainforests are currently facing.

Science

The focus in Science will be living things and their habitats. We will explore MRS GREN to develop an understanding of living things and use this to help explain why something is living and something is non-living. We will also look at many different living organisms in our school surrounding and use i-pads and books to identify and define each living organism found. We will also be looking at how living things adapt to their surroundings, thus demonstrating sensitivity from MRS GREN and identifying and exploring the various habitats of living organisms all around the world.

Times Table practise

In year 3/4, the recall of multiplication facts are very important. We encourage you to practise regularly with your child, from x2 up to x12 tables. Here are some websites you could use;

It is a government expectation that all children, by the end of Year 4, know all of their times table facts.

We would like your children to read at least three times a week. Children will receive a ‘book worm’ certificate weekly for regular reading.

Homework

Maths homework will be sent out every Thursday and due in the next Wednesday.

Spellings will be given out on Monday and tested on Friday.

Our P.E days are, usually, on Monday and Wednesday. Please make sure that your child has their full indoor/outdoor P.E kit in school. Also make sure that your child has taken out their earrings or has tape over their earrings.
