Our topic for Summer term 2018 is ‘Rotten Romans’. We will be exploring Ancient Rome, focusing on the Roman empire, housing, diet and lifestyles.

We will explore and partake in many exciting lessons learning all about the Romans and how their history shaped our future.

The focus in Science for the first half term will be forces and magnets. We will be exploring forces, what a force is and the different types of forces. We will also investigate friction.

Within the next half term we will explore Science from Romans and famous Roman scientists.

Times Table practise

In year 3/4, the recall of multiplication facts are very important. We encourage you to practise regularly with your child, from x2 up to x12 tables. Here are some websites you could use;

It is a government expectation that all children, by the end of Year 4, know all of their times table facts.

We have also recently begun using Times Table Rockstars. This is a fantastic programme which allows the children to practice, compete and earn virtual prizes both in school and at home. Your child will have brought home more information regarding this and should know their own login – please enquire if this is not the case.

We would be grateful if all children in Poplar class were encouraged to use this programme as much as possible to further develop their confidence in multiplication.

We would like your children to read at least three times a week. Children will receive raffle tickets for all home reading and will be entered into a weekly prize draw! They will also move along the clouds further up our reading display to reach the target 50 reads this term! Children will receive a ‘book worm’ certificate weekly for regular reading.

Maths homework will be sent out every Thursday and due in the next Wednesday. Spellings will be given out on Monday and tested on Friday.

Have a lovely Summer term!
