KS1 seaside overview

During Summer term, we will be reading Lila and the secret of the rain as our class book. We will be reading and looking at the text in-depth to help build our reading, comprehension and writing skills. We will be making predictions, asking questions and developing our comprehension skills. We will also continue our guided reading sessions, which focuses on

We would like your children to read at least three times a week at home, more if possible. We have a reward system in place where your child will get 5 house points every time they read. When they have read, 5 times they move up on our minion’s mission to the moon chart. Every child who reads three times in a week receives a certificate in our good news assembly. Occasionally we send home a comprehension sheet instead for the children to read and answer questions about.

The children will continue to develop their understanding of the number system, focusing on place value and addition. This term we will be following the focus maths programme and working on place value, addition and subtraction, and length and measurement.

Our topic focus this term is looking at The Seaside. We will be taking a geographical look at the coastal and seaside areas within the United Kingdom, focusing on Blackpool and how it compares to Chorley. We will be looking at both past and present trips to the seaside, as we research seaside holidays in the past.

Homework will be sent out every Wednesday and due in the Thursday of the following week. This consists of Maths and Topic based homework.

Spellings rules and phonics are taught throughout the week during Star Spelling. There will be a spelling test every Friday. Spellings will be sent home every Monday, to be learnt for the test that week.

Our P.E days are on Monday and Wednesday. This term we will focus on building on our fundamental movement skills. We will be looking to work on our running, jumping, hopping, skipping, throwing and catching. Please make sure that your child has their full indoor/outdoor P.E kit in school labelled correctly. Also, please make sure that your child has taken out their earrings or tape is applied prior to school.
