Rowan Class

Welcome to Rowan Class

The children in Rowan are from year 1 and year 2.  Our teacher is Mrs Robinson.  Our teaching assistants are Mrs Burke and Mrs Massey. Mrs Haddon, Miss O’Neill and Mrs Cheston will also work with some of the children in our class.  Mr Allen and Miss Clitheroe provide PPA cover.

We are available at the end of the day to speak to you if have any concerns.  You can also make an appointment with the office.

Our Topic for this term will be ‘Antarctica’.  We shall be looking at where Antarctica is in the world and explore maps, globes and Google Earth. We will be looking at the seasons and weather, in addition to the human and physical features of Antarctica.  We will also be recapping on the oceans and continents of the world.

All our children take a reading book home which should be read and returned daily with their reading record book.  Stamps and house points are awarded for regular readers.  The children also participate in guided reading sessions in class and visit the school library weekly to borrow books which can now be taken home.  Our library day is Thursday.  Please ensure that you return books regularly.

PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. This term we will be using the fundamental skills we learnt last term and applying skills to gymnastics and net and wall games. Children should have a full PE kit in school.  Please check pumps regularly so they fit properly.  Recently pierced ears should be taped front and back for safety, otherwise ear rings should be removed on these days. Long hair should be tied back.

Homework will be sent out on a Wednesday and should be returned by the Tuesday of the following week.  Homework is usually based on the Maths work covered during the week.  Year 2 may also have some additional reading with related questions. We are learning our number bonds to 10 and 20, doubles of numbers to 10 and our 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables for our Superhero League.  The opportunity to practise at home also really helps.  They will be tested on a Friday.

Spellings are given out on a Monday.  These are based on the National Curriculum common exception words for the year group.  They will be tested on a Friday.
