Topic

Our Topic for this term will be ‘Seaside’.  We shall be looking at the features of coastal areas in Geography and looking at what the seaside used to be like in History.  In Science we shall be exploring different materials and testing materials for a purpose.  We shall also be looking at rock pools, how they are formed and what type of animals live there.

Reading

reading

All our children take a reading book home which should be read and returned daily with their reading record book.  Stamps and house points are awarded for regular readers.  The children also participate in guided reading sessions in class and visit the school library weekly to borrow books which can now be taken home.  Our library day is Thursday.  Please ensure that you return books regularly.  We also encourage participation in the school reading challenge (a list of challenge books were sent out at the beginning of the school year) where the children can earn certificates and prizes for their independent reading.

PE

PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. This term we will be practicing the skills that we have already learnt and applying them to athletics in preparation for sports day. We shall also be exploring ‘under the sea’ through dance. Children should have a full PE kit in school.  Please check pumps regularly so they fit properly.  Recently pierced ears should be taped front and back for safety, otherwise ear rings should be removed on these days. Long hair should be tied back.

Homework

Homework will be sent out on a Wednesday and should be returned by the Tuesday of the following week.  Homework is usually based on the Maths work covered during the week.  The children may also have some additional reading with related questions. Children will be tested on their individual level of our Justice League on a Friday, and regular practice of their facts at home really helps their speed of recall of these facts.

Spellings

Spellings are given out on a Monday.  These are based on the National Curriculum common exception words for the year group.  They will be tested on a Friday.
