Redwood Class

Welcome to Redwood Class

Our class is a mixed year 1/2 class and is taught by Mr. Reay (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) and Mrs Pizzey (Wednesday).

Miss O’Neill is our teaching assistant every morning.

If you have any worries or concerns then don’t hesitate to speak to us on the playground in the morning or after school. Alternatively, you can make an appointment to see us with Mrs. Nicholls at the front office.

Our topic for Autumn term 2018 is ‘Pirates and Discoveries’.

The children will spend the first topic lesson sharing what they have found out of the summer holidays as part of their preview work activity about pirates. When we have had our discussion we will plan lessons which the children have suggested. That way they are ‘steering’ their learning ship in a direction which interests them. The main aim is to find out about pirates, their life, the ship and famous pirates.

Later in the Autumn term, we will start to look at Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong as part of the discoveries theme. We will learn all about their life, what makes them known today and what is similar and different about each significant figure.

Please practise many skills in maths such as counting, representing numbers with amounts, number bonds to 10, doubles, number bonds to 20 and times table facts (x2, x5, x10, x3, x4) Playing games for these key skills in maths at home will help your child to become more fluent and give them an advantage!

Spellings will be given out on Monday and tested on Friday.

Please make sure that your child has their full indoor/outdoor P.E kit in school. Also make sure that your child has taken out their earrings. Your child will be told their day for P.E.
