Rose Class

Welcome to Rose Class

Our class motto is… “I can”

We can achieve anything – as long as we try!

Welcome, we are a reception class. We love to learn through play in our continuous provision.

Class teachers:  Miss Zawistowicz and Mrs Ridley (Friday)

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Langton

We are all looking forward to getting to know all our new children during their first term in school.

Autumn Term Topics

Rose overview september 2017 rec

Our topics are decided based on the interests of the children. The main theme we will be looking at this term is Woodland Explorers. From this, there will be a wide variety of different learning opportunities we will explore based on the children’s outcomes and interests

In Maths, we will be learning about number and will use the cBeebies Numberblocks to help us with this.

In Literacy, we will read the story of the Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child and Stickman.

In addition to this theme, there will be mini themes that develop following the children’s interests.

What to expect, when?

This document is a useful guide for parents of Early Years children. It explains the different development stages that your child will go through in month bands and provides examples of activities that you could do with them at home to support their learning and development.

Junk Modelling

We appreciate any items such as cereal boxes, kitchen roll tubes, clean yoghurt pots, bottle tops etc.… for our creative making area.

At the start of October, following our reception parents reading meeting, the children will take home their first school reading books. We would like your children to read for 10 minutes every night. Please sign their ‘Reading Record Book’ every time they read. Their book bags need to be brought back into school on their designated reading day so that they can be awarded their stamps in their ‘Reading Record Book’ and ‘Stamp Card’. Once your child has filled a page in their stamp cards, they will get a prize.

The children will also be sent home with key words to learn and phonics. They will get a new list of words when they can read them.

We listen to the children read each week during guided reading. The children will also have a designated day of the week when they will be heard to read individually and have their reading books changed. Please make sure their reading packets are in school each week on their designated reading day.

Warm Clothing.

Every day, rain or shine, we have a free flow policy when it comes to outside. Please make sure your child has a warm winter coat, gloves, and scarf. We do have waterproof pants for the children to get changed into. However, if you would like your child to have a pair of wellies in school, please bring them in a labelled bag.

Our P.E days are TBC. Please make sure that your child has their full P.E kit in school, labelled with their name. Also make sure that your child has taken out their earrings.

If your child requires medical attention in school, please contact Mrs Nicholls and complete the relevant forms to keep school updated and keep your child safe in school.
